About
Unionize Sacramento is a project of volunteer worker organizers who believe that all workers deserve a union—for the sake of democratic worker power, mutual aid, and defense against boss abuse. You don’t have to hate your boss or your job to benefit from a union—all workers deserve a union—but if you do, you should definitely organize with your coworkers to make changes. Don’t quit, organize!
Getting started can be daunting. How to organize with coworkers is not something we’re taught in schools. Our “labor rights” can be hard to know and apply, and bosses can retaliate against us even when federal law technically says it’s illegal. To protect and defend ourselves and our coworkers, to build power to make lasting change in our workplaces, we need to join with our coworkers and take action collectively. We have power together.
To do this we need to find the most widely felt and deeply felt concerns among coworkers. We need to identify and recruit coworkers who are respected and influential in the workplace to help lead organizing efforts. We need to form diverse organizing groups that fully represent all worker perspectives. We need to collaborate and coordinate with others outside of the workplace to create a coalition of solidarity with our efforts. And we need to constantly study and develop the knowledge and skills that will make our efforts more strategic and effective.
The resources and volunteers of Unionize Sacramento can help support in these efforts and can help to connect workers with other services and support to empower your organizing at work. If you’re a worker in the Sacramento Capital Region who wants form a union and wants help with organizing, fill out the contact form below, or email info@unionizesac.org. Describe what’s happening and what support you might want, and a volunteer organizer will follow up to discuss possible next steps.
